Rotary Club of Olympia Capital Centennial Traffic Garden

Centennial Elementary School's traffic garden is complete!

The traffic garden was installed by the Child Care Action Council’s Safe Kids Thurston County program, with help from Intercity Transit's Walk N Roll program and the Olympia School District, and funding from Olympia Capital Centennial Rotary Club. A traffic garden is a safe and fun place for youth to learn and practice bicycle and pedestrian safety skills in an environment away from vehicles. The miniature streetscape includes an intersection, stop signs, crosswalks, and a roundabout. The traffic garden is located on Centennial Elementary School’s playground and will be used during PE class to teach bicycle and pedestrian safety skills. The traffic garden is also open to the community during non-school hours.

The video below includes some of our work over this three-month on-the-ground project that required over a year of preparation.
